Hi! My name is Ashley. My wife, Emma, and I have been married since March of 2023. We’ve known from the very beginning that we want nothing more than to be parents. We dream of raising our babies to be kind humans with so much love to give.
Unfortunately, this is not a simple process for us and requires extensive funds. As many of you know, insurance companies rarely cover the costs of fertility treatments, and when they do, those benefits typically are not extended to the LGBTQ community. Grants typically follow suit, only providing financial relief to those who have the ability to try on their own but haven’t been successful, leaving those who have to start their journey with medical intervention with no help.
Obviously, starting a family is never cheap, no matter the route you take, but there is definitely inequity in the resources available to queer folks who want to conceive. Right from the beginning, you have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on sperm or eggs just to have the chance at a family. With the success rate of IUI specifically, each vial of sperm has only a 25% chance of a successful pregnancy, meaning you have to buy several, at over $1,000 each. Then you can move on to the expensive medications and procedures to rack up an even higher bill.
Everyone knows that life is hard and money can be hard to come by. Despite my wife and I both being college grads with decent jobs, coming up with $25,000 to start our family is nearly impossible. It would mean the absolute world to us to have the opportunity to start a family and share the massive amount of love in our hearts. Any help that you provide will be appreciated beyond words and you will truly be helping our dreams come true.
